The First States That Will Go Down In A Collapse. Do You Live In The Red Zone? (Is the USA going to collapse? Nobody can say. There are a few things that could cause a collapse, but who knows if any of them will?)

Is the USA going to collapse? Nobody can say. There are a few things that could cause a collapse, but who knows if any of them will?

What we can be sure of, though, is that if a crisis comes it won’t affect the whole country equally.

If one of the doomsday scenarios preppers fear happens, even if it’s a national event the effects will hit some places sooner, and harder, than others.

Some states will collapse almost immediately, and things there could get very bad, very quickly. Other states will hold up better, and even if they do completely collapse the process will be slower, giving people time to prepare, adapt and survive.

If you want to maximize your chances of making it through a crisis you need to know what states to avoid. Here are the top five:

    California

This one probably won’t surprise anyone. California is famously vulnerable to natural disasters – earthquakes and wildfires are common, and huge parts of the state are vulnerable to tsunamis as well – but that’s only half the problem. California has some other massive vulnerabilities, too.

For a start, it’s densely populated. Compared to the likes of New Jersey or Rhode Island it isn’t that densely populated – it ranks 17th in the nation – but a combination of relatively high density and very high population makes it very vulnerable.

California’s big cities are incredibly reliant on supplies from outside. San Diego and Los Angeles bring in up to 90% of their water from Northern California; if the infrastructure that carries that water breaks down (and it isn’t in any better shape than the rest of our infrastructure) the cities will collapse into chaos within days.

San Francisco is a lot smaller and has a cooler, wetter climate, but it isn’t in the clear either. Over 85% of the Bay Area’s water comes from the Hetch Hetchy Valley in the Yosemite National Park, 150 miles to the east, and if that stops flowing San Francisco will be just as screwed as the big cities.

California isn’t helped by the fact it’s such an obvious target for attackers.

The First States That Will Go Down In A Collapse. Do You Live In The Red Zone?

Silicon Valley and the San Francisco area is the center of the global tech industry; an EMP attack on California is a quick and easy way to devastate the US economy – but it would also cause a rapid and massive collapse as the bankrupt state’s crumbling infrastructure simply broke under the impact.

    Florida

Florida’s politics might be different to California’s, but unfortunately, its vulnerability to collapse is similar.

It also suffers a lot of natural disasters – hurricanes, this time – and it’s also densely populated. In fact, Florida’s people are packed in a lot more densely than California’s, although that’s balanced by the fact there aren’t as many of them.

Like California, Florida is highly urbanized – about 92% of Floridians live in an urban area. That makes them very dependent on outside supplies that probably won’t come in a crisis, and as the old saying goes, civilization is never more than three missed meals from anarchy.

If disaster hits, life in Florida is going to get ugly in a hurry.

The First States That Will Go Down In A Collapse. Do You Live In The Red Zone?

    Alaska

You’re probably wondering what Alaska is doing on the list. After all, it’s about as unlike highly urbanized California as you can get.

Alaskans are self-sufficient, many of them hunt and they don’t rely on vulnerable infrastructure for such basic necessities as water.

Unfortunately, Alaska does rely on imports of some other necessities, with gasoline and heating oil being the most important. It also buys in most of its processed food and almost all its manufactured goods.

And, while Alaskans can easily supplement their diet by hunting and fishing, farming is another story.

A harsh climate and short growing season mean the state is nowhere near self-sufficient in grains, fruit and vegetables, and true self-sufficiency is pretty hard to achieve.

The First States That Will Go Down In A Collapse. Do You Live In The Red Zone?

Alaska might not be torn apart by urban riots in the first days of a crisis, but it will still collapse within weeks as food stocks run down and gas disappears.

    Hawaii

All the things that count against Alaska also count against Hawaii, and there are a couple of other issues, too.

While Hawaii has more agriculture than Alaska, the biggest crops are sugarcane and pineapples – not exactly staple foods. The climate means it’s a bit more feasible to grow your own food there, but on the downside, land is scarce and expensive.

Hawaii is also heavily urbanized, with almost 92% of the population living in cities. Like California or Florida, as soon as supplies from out of state stop arriving those cities will collapse fast and hard.

The First States That Will Go Down In A Collapse. Do You Live In The Red Zone?

There’s another serious problem with Hawaii, too – it’s an island chain in the middle of the Pacific. At least if you’re in Alaska when the collapse comes you can get to Canada. If you’re in Hawaii, plan on being there for a long, long time.

    New York

If the power goes off and supplies of food and water stop coming, the Big Apple will rot in a hurry.

The state of New York contains the USA’s most populous city, over eight million people with basically no ability to be self-sufficient.

While New York does have some agriculture, including a lot of basic foods – the state is the largest cabbage producer in the country, for example – in a crisis not much of that food is going to make it into the city, so you can expect hungry mobs to fan out into the rural parts of the state looking for food.

    New York

Along with the city’s already high crime levels, the collapse of New York is going to be fast and brutal.

    The Alternatives

If you live in one of these collapse-prone states, the best advice is to be ready to bug out as fast and as far as you can.

The ideal solution is to move to a more rural state where any collapse will be slower and less violent, giving you time to adjust to the new normal.

The Great Plains states are a good choice – large, sparsely populated and heavily agricultural.

It’s easy to be self-sufficient there, and you’re a long way from the chaos that will erupt when America’s helpless cities start to starve.

INTERESTING TIME LINE-How The World Could Change In 7 Days: One Moment The Building Is Alive, Bright, Vibrant, Buzzing. With The Flip Of A Switch, It Lays Still, Cold And Dead

You might be thinking, hey, I’ve got this one covered! I’ve surviv ed lots of power outages. If that is your thought process, you could not be more wrong.

Anyone who considers, even for a moment, how interconnected and interdependent our existence has become … so full of overly-complex, over-engineered, over-automated systems driving every aspect of our increasingly fragile existence that is dependent on just-in-time inventory and shipping virtually everything we need ridiculous distances … arrives at the same inescapable conclusion: that mankind has built a house of cards.

I doubt we could have created a more fragile world if it had been our aim from the beginning. We have painted ourselves into a corner and we are going to make a mess getting out.

Few analogies are as simple and powerful as tripping an electrical breaker to disconnect a building from the grid. One moment the building is alive, bright, vibrant, buzzing. With the flip of a switch, it lays still, cold and dead.

    On/off.

    Alive/Dead.

It is truly that simple. One moment we have juice, the next we don’t.

    The Chain Reaction

America’s need for power outstrips our investment in our capability to produce it by 400%.

Yet the legislative branch of government points fingers and the executive branch (well, what used to be the executive branch before we turned the zoo over to the chimps, so to speak) sits in its tower considering “jobs for jihadis” and throwing lavish parties to congratulate and reward itself for scamming the rest of us out of our tax dollars.

Meanwhile, our electrical infrastructure continues its rapid decay and the nation’s power grid slips and slides down a spiral water slide of demise. It appears that they could not possibly care less. Perhaps they figure somebody else will be in office to take the blame when the music stops.

But it is not just the US. The US economy affects the world economy and the world economy is feeling the pinch. You do not have to be a risk assessment genius to understand that a depressed world economy translates to more frequent power outages of increased duration and a weaker and more vulnerable power grid.

The grid is limping along on borrowed time. Through a combination of luck and the best efforts of the intelligence and military communities, we have dodged the CME/HEMP (Coronal Mass Ejection/High-altitude Electromagnetic Pulse) bullet … so far.

But while clock counts down to the next time the sun lobs an X-class solar flare in the general direction of our planet, the power industry has succeeded in using junk science generated by NERC (North American Electric Reliability Corporation) to pull the wool over the eyes of congress and emergency management bureaucrats alike, forestalling the Shield Act, which is our only hope to harden the grid against the inevitable threat of EMP, be it geomagnetic or manmade.

The 2012 India Blackout affected 620 million people or 9% of the world population. India’s engineers blamed in on a number of factors that were merely symptoms of the same illness that affects the US and most other power grids.

The chronic illness underlying the symptoms was that the industrial and technological revolutions have catalyzed humanity’s explosive growth for far too long.

This has woven fragility into very fabric of world’s power grids. This has become a growth bubble of epic proportions searching for a pin. Our sun and geopolitical climate has that bubble navigating terrain akin to the Sonoran Desert. In reality, it is not so much a desert, but a forest of cactus spines, fangs, thorns and stingers, all poised to plant themselves in passersby.

I am involved in emergency management and I am very blessed to have many good, competent government emergency managers all the way up to the state level. After that, it mostly government shills who fancy themselves emergency managers.

Especially at the Federal level, the US has fallen prey to a culture of academics who pretend to know inordinately more than they actually do. Rooted firmly in the personality ethic, “Fake it ‘til you make it.” is their motto, but they never do. Afraid of their own intellectual shadow, they fear embracing and admitting their own uncertainly, which is the first step to anyone truly learning anything. So they believe what is most convenient as opposed to what is true. In this case, it very convenient to have blind faith that the electrical grid, like everything else in their lives, is maintained by people and organizations more intelligent, wiser, more benevolent and more responsible than they are. “Move along, nothing to see here!”

EMP is the stuff of Hollywood, not what our smartest scientists, the head of the CIA, and our best and brightest minds, and those of our enemies, seem to all agree is presently our single greatest known vulnerability.

Major vulnerabilities mean increased work load for emergency managers, and government shills resist having to actually provide a valuable service in trade for their salary.

Just this type of human debris, “working” for the City of Phoenix, Arizona concluded some years ago that an evacuation of Phoenix-Metro area is simply impossible.

So no such plan even exists. “Can’t win … don’t try.” They look to Homer Simpson for guidance on important issues like emergency plans that affect the lives of millions of people, including themselves and their own families.

I sincerely hope they have since remedied the situation, but I was not going to hold my breath and relocated to someplace with better prospects and better leadership.

    The Countdown to Disaster

In order to understand how to prepare for a protracted power outage, you should understand the sequence of events that will unfold after the lights go out.

The electrical grid varies greatly from state to state and country to country, as do the threats to the grid, but here’s a sample of past events and future projections in form of a timeline.

It is a simple matter to put together a plan based on your family or organizational needs once you have an idea of what you’re preparing for so visualizing your mission and obstacles is sometimes more useful than the usual list of stuff you need have on hand and obligatory reminder to practice and train.

    Immediately:

    • Electric heating & cooling systems fail. In winter, homes will begin losing heat. In summer, many buildings dependent on air conditioning to maintain a safe temperature for occupants will be forced to evacuate.
    • Many hospitals, radio stations, TV stations, telecomm systems and data centers switch over to emergency power but many lose air conditioning due to the expense of backup generators capable of supplying its heavy electrical load. Consequently, many data centers begin to heat up.
    • Computers without uninterruptable power supplies or an integrated battery power lose power.
    • Tall buildings reliant on most types of booster pumps lose water pressure past the bottom floors. Buildings with rooftop tanks have water until the tanks run dry.
    • Entire cities lose water pressure forcing boil-water advisories into effect for any water that does make to you or that you manage to scrounge up. But without electricity, most households will be unable to boil water. The NE US Blackout of 2003 left millions of Michigan residents without any water.
    • Many commuters are trapped on subways. Most electric subways and electric trains cease to function. Those that remain functioning reduce numbers of trains. In the Southern Brazil blackout of 1999, 60,000 commuters where on the subway system in Rio alone when it plunged into darkness. That blackout affected nearly 100 million people and triggered troop deployments. It was caused by neglect of the country’s grid due to a depressed economy. The event was triggered by an everyday lightning strike. Likewise, the NE US Blackout of 2003, affected all Northern states from Michigan up to NY and portions of Canada. Some 600 trains were stranded and thousands upon thousands had to be evacuated or rescued from subways and elevators.
    • Most traffic lights go dark or default to 4-way stops. Traffic snarls due to failure of traffic controls. Increased numbers of traffic accidents and delayed emergency response times.
    • Slowed traffic and calls to rescue thousands of people in elevators slows emergency response times.
    • Most credit card terminals and point of sale terminals are inoperable, limiting commerce. Some transactions continue on a cash only basis.
    • Most banks and ATMs (Automated Teller Machine) close or are inoperable, impeding most cash withdrawals.
    • In large blackouts, cell service typically goes down before land lines, large due to increased call volume and lack of power to form many cell towers to transmit, but keep in mind that voice, and text messaging operate on completely different frequencies and systems. Text messaging often works when voice does not. Also keep in mind that the landline system operates independent of cell service is more robust.
    • The 2012 India blackout shutdown multiple airports.
    • Refilling prescription medication instantly gets a whole lot harder. Refilling controlled medications becomes next to impossible for most patients.

    4 hours:

    • Backup batteries on most alarm systems fail. If you own a brick and mortar small business, you either have to physically guard it or leave it vulnerable. If you own both a business and a home and commute between the two, you will have a hard time guarding them both. Many criminals are well aware of this fact and that law enforcement response times are slowing. Burglaries increase.
    • Small portable generators need to be refueled. This will become a constant chore, very expensive and noisy security risk, so you are better off putting in a renewable energy source and battery bank while it is still possible or planning to only run your generator at certain times and doing all chores requiring electricity while it is running.
    • Store shelves of business still in operation begin to empty.
    • Price gouging, profiteering, panic buying and hording cause panic to mount, tempers to flare. Batteries, bottled water, flashlights, ice, candles and fuel are hardest hit and profiteers begin selling them in the streets.
    • If cell phones or social media are still up, heavily-populated areas will see some flash mob-related crime.
    • Any previously working phone circuits will likely be overloaded by now.

    6 hours:

    • Long lines form at gas stations still able to pump gas with battery-powered pumps or hand pumps as increasing numbers of motorists run out of fuel and many gas stations lose access to underground fuel tanks. They will only be able to accept cash.
    • GMRS (General Mobile Radio Service) and FRS (Family Radio Service) radios rendered ineffective by “bubble pack” radio users and children. They will remain unusable from this point forward in most cities and suburbs. Smaller towns with redundant band plans will fare better, but will not be without major problems.
    • Most folk will have had to “use the bathroom” by now. Many will discover that their toilets no longer flush. Are you prepared for this eventuality?
    • By this point, if are well prepared, you will very likely have determined the scope of the outage, its probable duration and cause. You will most likely determine this via your emergency radio equipment such as AM/FM/SW emergency radios, scanners or amateur radio equipment. Depending on the scope and cause, you might have found out or figured out whether the blackout is due to grid failure, a geomagnetic event or an HEMP almost immediately. Understanding its probable scope and severity, however, may take some time and the use of your noggin, your ears and possibly asking the right people the right questions if you have ensured your ability to do ahead of time. Emergency responders and knowledgeable amateur radio enthusiasts, especially those who are part of ARES (Amateur Radio Emergency Service) will have a huge advantage over the average citizen when it comes to collecting and correctly interpreting intelligence about the emergency. If neither of these is your cup of tea, you might consider networking with someone so inclined ahead of time or you may find yourself doubly in the dark.

    8 Hours:

    • Utility companies set up generators to keep coms infrastructure up.
    • People realize this is not just a minor blackouts where they will light some candles and play break out a board game for the kids.
    • Small scale looting begins if hasn’t already. What happened, the ability of emergency services to inform the public, what they choose to tell people or the people having to figure it out themselves, may all have a significant impact on crime.

    12 Hours:

    • By the end of the first business day, blackouts cost gas stations and restaurants as much as $20K a day. Grocery store? Try more like 60K per day.
    • Most refrigerators are now useless under normal usage patterns so most insulin-dependent diabetics lose the means to cool insulin.

    Night fall:

    • CPAP and oxygen concentrator users who have not invested in an alternative power solution will wake up fatigued at best and run the risk of not waking up at all.
    • Crime rate goes up when the sun goes down.

    Day 2:

    • State of Emergency Declared. Troop deployments likely, if available. The Disaster Recovery Personal Protection Act of 2006, passed in 2007 specifically prohibits government officials from confiscating firearms in the aftermath of certain emergencies and natural disasters. Anyone who lies, cheats and steals their way into power these days seems to interpret the Constitution and Bill of Rights so broadly as to not apply to them or interprets one wiretap warrant to apply to hundreds of thousands of people. One such crook, former New Orleans police chief Eddie Compass, ordered police and National Guard units to confiscate firearms in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. To prevent this from happening again, The People passed a law specifying penalties should some future tyrant try it and manage to survive long enough to stand trial. This is very probable in Eastern US or the People’s Republic of Kalifornia, but I imagine anyone who tried that in most Western states would end up at the long end of a short rope shortly after the words exited his pie hole. So, will there be firearms confiscation? Probably not unless a state of martial law is declared, and then only in areas firmly under government control. But depending on how that administration uses that power, it might precipitate a premature “leadership vacuum. “
    • Fuel rationing begins. Trucks start pumping out gas stations and truck the fuel to priority skeleton infrastructure.
    • Freezers begin to thaw. Many people begin cooking thawing meat to preserve it or at least prepare it before it spoils. BBQ’s use far more propane to cook than camp stoves.
    • Do yourself a favor plan involves a bug out and clean out your fridge before you leave. If you come back, you will wish you had. If you come back to warm fridge after an extended absence, don’t bother opening it. Just tape it shut, haul it to the dump and buy a new one. You’ll save yourself a lot of grief.
    • Casualties and fatalities due to heat or cold exposure increase.
    • Casualties and fatalities due to lack of access to healthcare and medication increase.
    • Stores are likely cleaned out or soon will be.
    • By this time, lacking passive solar design features, alternative energy sources, wood stove, kerosene heater or the like, your home will likely be getting pretty close to the same temperature indoors as out of doors minus the wind chill. In some climates, this is no big deal. In other climates this is a death sentence. Plan accordingly. You will need a whole lot more clothing than in a climate-controlled home. If it is cold, create a micro-climate in a single room or fewer rooms. It will be way easier to keep one room warm than a whole house. If you have vaulted ceilings throughout your entire home, set up a cabin tent in the living room and line it’s walls and roof with reflective blankets.

    Day 3:

    • 72 Hour Kits or typical bug out bags are used up or close to it. The average “prepared” citizen (as per FEMA’s over-optimistic recommendations based on past averages minus hurricanes, tornados and any other serious event because it is impossible that anything like that will ever happen again) runs out of emergency supplies and fuel to boil water.
    • As fatigue, injuries and concern for their families takes a toll on first responders, law enforcement officers, firefighters, EMTs (Emergency Medical Technician), nurses and doctors begin to stop showing up for shifts.
    • Rise in violent crime.
    • Looting picks up momentum.
    • Cases of waterborne and hygiene-related illness start to mount, further straining medical resources.
    • Some better-organized cities set up mobile morgues in refrigerated reefer trucks. It might sound a little morbid, but it is a whole lot better than the alternative.

    Day 4:

    • Exhausted first responders and emergency personnel, nursing home staff and others have to prioritize dwindling resources where they can do the most good for patients with the best chances of recovery or survival.
    • Once you start using your food stores, the type or types of food you chose will have a huge impact on the amount of fuel needed to prepare it. Soaking dry packed legumes and grains prior to boiling can help reduce fuel consumption, but it takes a lot more fuel to cook from scratch than it does to prepare a freeze dried meal or heat up an MRE (Meal Ready-to-Eat).
    • By this time, cash may be have substantially less purchasing power and barter, mostly in the form of food, will eventually replace it.

    Day 5:

    • Hospitals are forced to consolidate. Smaller hospitals and urgent care facilities are forced to shut down and must be evacuated, causing healthcare workers or volunteers to face difficult choices and patients to suffer the consequences.
    • Looting starts to die down because there isn’t anything left to loot.

    Day 6:

    • As reality sets in, doctors do the unthinkable and begin euthanizing patients they feel have low probability of survival. As demonstrated in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, this is considered acceptable practice and they will face no legal recourse if the blackout ends and society recovers. Due to limited quantities of medicine, no access to computerized medical records, lack of familiarity with the patients and lack of experience performing euthanasia, many of these attempts will fail, resulting in prolonged suffering, asphyxiation and hypoxic brain injury of patients who survive the attempt(s). This is sometimes due to the fact that patients with genetic tolerance to opioids and chronic pain patients undergoing opioid pain therapy will survive dosages far greater than a typically lethal dose.
    • Some elderly patients in nursing homes were simply abandoned and left to die of dehydration and exposure during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. If you have loved ones in such a facility, you might want to keep this in mind.

    Day 7:

    • Cholera outbreaks and other serious fecal contamination-related and waterborne illness not seen in the US for decades or centuries begin to ravage cities, especially the large, coastal cities on the East Coast located far downstream from large populations. A protracted power outage will churn out epidemics, so it is prudent to plan for the eventuality.
    • Unleaded and diesel-only generator owners who can still find fuel available are feeling the pinch as gasoline is many times more expensive and less available than natural gas in the majority of outages. Propane is cheaper than gas, but usually less available unless you have large capacity tanks.
    • Some people that had been getting by looting businesses decide to give homes a try. Some see that the empty homes will soon run out and decide to transition straight to home invasion of occupied homes.
    • If martial law has not been declared yet, they may give it a shot, but this would depend on the scope of the outage, prospects for recovery, political motives, geography, etc.
    • If the power is still out and there isn’t a firm projection of restoration, you will likely be needing body bags soon if you have not already. Bodies can become a very serious microbiological threat and need to be properly handled and disposed of.

  • Will Mankind be Extinct In a Few Years? Impacts of Toxic Agrochemicals, “Endocrine Disruptors”

Will Mankind be Extinct In a Few Years? Impacts of Toxic Agrochemicals, “Endocrine Disruptors”

It’s no secret that Bill Gates and the advocates of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 are also devout promoters of human eugenics, the “thinning of the Human Herd” as Britain’s misanthropic Prince Philip once put it. Some such as Joachim Schnellnhuber, climate adviser to the Pope, openly welcome a human population below one billion as “sustainable.” Now serious research is emerging that one of the most effective reducers of the human population is being spread by so-called “modern scientific agriculture” through the select use of toxic agrochemicals, pesticides deemed safe which are anything but safe.

According to a new book by Dr Shanna Shaw, ‘Count Down’, the male sperm count in Western industrial countries, including the EU and USA, is falling at a dramatic rate. Shaw estimates that over the past four decades, the average sperm count has dropped by 50% or more. In other words, a young male today seeking to have a family has only half the sperm count his grandfather did, half the chance to conceive. Shaw estimates that unless toxic chemical exposures in agriculture and the environment are dramatically altered, we may not have the ability to reproduce naturally much longer, and that by 2050, most human beings in the industrial countries, including China, will need technological assistance to procreate.

Shaw’s book is a further elaboration of a 2017 peer-reviewed scientific paper which Shaw and colleagues published. In the paper, Shaw carefully analyzed a total of 244 estimates of Sperm Concentration and Total Sperm Count (TSC) from 185 studies of 42,935 men who provided semen samples in 1973–2011. What they found was alarming in the extreme. But beyond a few media headlines, no changes of consequence resulted, as the powerful agrochemical corporations such as Bayer-Monsanto, Syngenta and DowDuPont (now Corteva) lobbied regulators to ignore the findings.

Shaw found that “Among unselected Western studies, the mean Sperm Concentration declined, on average, 1.4% per year with an overall decline of 52.4% between 1973 and 2011.” The same group of males had “an average decline in mean TSC of 1.6% per year and overall decline of 59.3%.” That is a sperm count decline as of a decade ago of more than 59% in men, unselected by fertility, from North America, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. And it continues to decline year by year.

Because of lack of serious support for new studies, updated data is limited. Fifteen years ago, over half of potential sperm donors in Hunan Province, China, met quality standards. Now, only 18% do, a decline blamed on endocrine disrupting chemicals according to one study. A similar fall in sperm count was registered by researchers in Taiwan, as well as a similar result for Israel. Shaw concludes, “male reproductive health, not just semen quality by the way, is in trouble, and this has consequences, not just for the ability to have a child, but it also impacts the health of the man.” She cites as examples, “low sperm count, infertility, testicular cancer, and various general defects. One of them is undescended testicles, another one is a condition where the opening of the urethra is not where it should be…”

    Endocrine Disruptors

Swan, today with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, believes the cause is to be found in the huge rise in toxic chemical exposures in recent decades, especially of chemicals known as “endocrine disruptors” or hormone disruptors. She points to “chemicals that make plastics soft, which are phthalates, or chemicals that make plastics hard like Bisphenol A, or chemicals that are flame retardants, chemicals that are in Teflon, and so on, pesticides…”

The last, pesticides, is the group that should send loud alarm bells ringing because it is proven to get into groundwater and the human food chain. Today the two most widely used pesticides in the world are Bayer-Monsanto’s Roundup containing the probable carcinogen, glyphosate, and Azatrine made by Syngenta, which today is owned by ChemChina.

    Atrazine effects

In 2010 a renowned University of California, Berkeley scientist, Tyrone B. Hayes, professor of integrative biology, led a major study of the effect of Atrazine exposure for frogs. He found that the pesticide, widely used on US corn crops and sugarcane, wreaks havoc with the sex lives of adult male frogs, emasculating three-quarters of them and turning one in 10 into females. He found ,“These male frogs are missing testosterone and all the things that testosterone controls, including sperm.” Moreover, Hayes noted that the 10% of frogs exposed to Atrazine that “turn from males into females – something not known to occur under natural conditions in amphibians – can successfully mate with male frogs but, because these females are genetically male, all their offspring are male.” Hayes declared, “I believe that the preponderance of the evidence shows atrazine to be a risk to wildlife and humans.”

Atrazine is a potent endocrine disruptor. Atrazine is also the second-most widely used herbicide in the US behind Monsanto’s glyphosate product, Roundup. Despite the evidence, in a controversial ruling the US Environmental Protection Agency, in 2007 ruled that “Atrazine does not adversely affect amphibian sexual development and that no additional testing was warranted.” End of story? Hardly. But in 2004, the EU banned Atrazine, saying Syngenta failed to prove its safety in drinking water.

Another agrochemical that has been determined to be an endocrine disruptor is Monsanto’s Roundup with glyphosate. Roundup is the world’s most widely used pesticide, in over 140 countries including Russia and China. Its use on US GMO crops has exploded in recent years as almost 90% of US corn is GMO, and a similar percent of its soybeans. Between 1996 when GMO Monsanto corn and soybeans were authorized in the USA, and 2017, Americans’ exposure to the chemical grew 500 percent. It has been tested in drinking water, cereals in stores and in urine of pregnant women. Almost all meat and poultry is saturated with glyphosate from animal feed.

A recent study carried out in Australia by researchers at Flinders University found that Roundup killed the cells that produce progesterone in women, causing their levels to drop. Glyphosate and Roundup have been “linked to birth defects, reproductive problems and liver disease, and it has been shown to have the potential to harm the DNA of human umbilical cord, placental and embryonic cells.”

In 2015, scientists in Nigeria examined the effects of combined exposure to both glyphosate and Atrazine on rats. They found the combination was even worse with effects on sperm, testosterone synthesis and male reproductive organs.

In 2016 China’s state-owned chemicals giant, ChemChina, bought Syngenta for a colossal $43 billion. At the time, ChemChina had distribution rights in China and other Asian countries for Monsanto Roundup as well. On the ChemChina website it lists Atrazine among the herbicides it sells, calling it a “safe and efficient herbicide for corn fields…” ChemChina is also the leading producer of glyphosate for the Chinese agriculture market.

Today, China is facing, by its own admission, a major agriculture crisis and is also struggling with ways to insure food security. Reports are that an increased role for GMO crops with Chinese patents will be a central part of a new five year plan which would undoubtedly mean using glyphosate and Atrazine. At the same time, the state is increasingly alarmed by the falling birth rate which has not improved despite relaxations on the One Child policy. With Chinese farmers using significant amounts of pesticide chemicals including glyphosate and Atrazine to improve yields, they are pursuing a disastrous combination that will not only not solve the growing food crisis, but also may destroy the reproductive potential of a major portion of its 890 million rural population, as well as countless millions of urban citizens.

Are these dangerous endocrine-disrupting agrochemicals allowed worldwide because of bureaucratic ignorance of the damage caused by glyphosates, Atrazine and other endocrine disrupters on the human reproduction? Is it only because of corporate greed for hyper profits that they exist?

A 1975 quote from Henry Kissinger, author of the eugenics document NSSM-200 during the Nixon-Ford era is instructive: “Depopulation should be the highest priority of foreign policy towards the third world, because the US economy will require large and increasing amounts of minerals from abroad, especially from less developed countries.”

And from Bill Gates: “The world today has 6.8 billion people…that’s headed up to about 9 billion. If we do a really great job on vaccines, health care, reproductive health services, we could lower that by perhaps 10 to 15 percent.”

Or the grand old dog of eugenics, Prince Philip: “I must confess that I am tempted to ask for reincarnation as a particularly deadly virus.” ~ Prince Philip, in his Foreword to “If I Were an Animal” – United Kingdom, Robin Clark Ltd., 1986.

We are rapidly making the human species extinct as we continue to ignore dangers of these toxins to human and other life forms.

Avoid These 5 Signs On Your Property (These signs can be used as further proof against someone who might be looting, casing or just sneaking onto your property and wrecking.)

We Americans are an expressive lot. We like to tell the world how we feel to the world around us. We have recruited an army from China to assure that we can express our thoughts on signs, bumper stickers, and shirts very cheaply.

The things you wear and the signs you hang can affect your life in more ways than just spreading your personal mantra or message. In fact, what you hang and what you wear can make you both liable in certain situations and even make you a target in others!

    The Power Of Deterrents

That said, the most powerful tools you can use when setting up real home security are deterrents. Deterrents are usually affordable, and they can be incredibly effective. They are things like cameras, locks, lights and even signs that can be used to keep criminals moving when they happen upon your home.

If your house is a just a little less appealing than your neighbors or another home, they have been casing, well, your deterrents are working. It only takes a little thought to make criminals rethink breaking into your home.

Many Americans use signs for this, but some signs are actually going to make matters worse in a break in. Do you know the five signs to avoid using on your property?

    Variability In State Laws

Neither this website nor I, are offering up legal advice in this article. We are not qualified to offer this kind of advice! We are simply pointing out some issues and concerns that come about when you begin hanging certain kinds of signage on your home and property.

These are trying times and we are all looking for a little something that we can do to be more prepared for the future. We must be careful and thorough with what we do.

No Trespassing Violators Will Be Shot

Avoid These 5 Signs on Your Property

This is a common sign that helps to empower the owner. A sign like this gives you the ability to basically threaten all who might step foot on your property.

Let’s be honest, when we see terrible things happening in the streets of our nation, it is hard not to be scared. Many fill that fear hole with aggression.

What’s important to remember is that you can only shoot in self defense. If you do it for any other reason you are likely going to jail! So, if someone sees your sign and disregards it, they can pretty much take whatever they want off your property and, so long as they are not posing a physical threat to you and yours, you cannot shoot at them.

Where these signs can get you into even more trouble is if you are defending yourself on your property and they can make the legal case that you are a crazy prepper who has been dying to shoot someone with your AR and even hung signs up about it!

    Beware Of Dog

Avoid These 5 Signs on Your Property

One of the more interesting and dangerous signs that you can put up, is the ‘Beware of Dog’ sign.

While you might be able to understand that a sign that says something like “My Rottweiler is the Security System” or something like that, will not help your case, if your dog bites someone.

However, the ‘Beware of Dog’ sign can do as much damage to your case as not having one! This is dependent on the state laws but just understand it could be an issue.

The Takeaway: If you knew your dog was vicious and the sign can prove it, when it bites you have offered up the first bit of evidence by way of signage.

    Fake Security Signs

Avoid These 5 Signs on Your Property

While it might seem enticing to post some fake security signs as a deterrent, be careful with this.

Seasoned criminals will know the difference between a fake sign and a real one. If a criminal spots a fake sign in your yard they will instantly know that you have no security system.

Don’t think that criminals are not well versed in the technology they might face when breaking into a home.

This could embolden someone to take advantage of breaking into your home. They will assume you are unprotected.

    What About Bumper Stickers?

Avoid These 5 Signs on Your Property

In this age of hypersensitivity everyone has something to say and something to hide! This can often manifest itself in the form of tee shirts and bumper stickers.

Even if your home is free of any signs, you can tell people a lot by the things you place on your bumper.

What do you think a criminal sees in an anti-gun bumper sticker? They understand that the homeowner is likely not protected by a firearm.

There are all kinds of things that criminals can deduce from the messages you plaster on the back of your parked car.

    Flags

While you might not look at flags as signs, they certainly convey a message about the people who hang the flags.

Don’t believe me? What would you think if you were driving down your street and you saw an ISIS flag flying on one of your neighbor’s home? What about a swastika?

Much like the signs we mentioned, flags can both build a case against you and deter people from making your home a target. I have to imagine if you fly a flag with an AR15 on it you are not going to see a lot of incidences of looting.

It’s the same old story. There is no flag, sign or bumper sticker that gives you legal immunity. The flag you fly tells people a lot about you and you need to be aware of that.

Whether it’s a sign, a bumper sticker, or a flag, when you put a message out to the public you must be thoughtful. While your buddies might think it’s cute to be radical and dangerous in your signage just understand that kind of language can be turned against you.

Simple and effective signing with clear language can be very effective for the property owner. These signs can be used as further proof against someone who might be looting, casing or just sneaking onto your property and wrecking.

In most cases, the less you put out there the better your defense. A simple “No Trespassing” sign establishes your domain and can be used against anyone who decides to ignore the sign and be malicious.

  • The state and its control over the population- In a SHTF scenario we will no longer have rights!

The state and its control over the population- In a SHTF scenario we will no longer have rights!

Dealing with this subject has been quite difficult for me. Both the concept of the state stripping you of everything and the SHTF concept have as many backgrounds as diverse interpretations, so trying to approach this from a single point of view is a complicated task.

In my country, Venezuela, after 20 years of “revolution,” we have bottomed out and learned to live in situations we never imagined (so much so that I was able to write an article on survival techniques I never imagined myself using on daily basis).

How the State Will Strip You off Everything When the SHTF

It’s not that the governments before Hugo Chavez were much better. But there was a much more stable political and economic situation with access to the international market. In 1999, when Chávez’s government was instated, oil prices were the highest in Venezuela’s history. The newly born Communist policy in the country was hardly felt and had very few repercussions on the professional citizens who lived on a monthly salary.

That’s probably why those first few years didn’t really feel like something was taken away from us. In addition, the newly elected president had a 60% popular approval rating and promised endless opportunities for the neediest people.

One of the first economic policies was the implementation of exchange control, currently in effect. Any operation with foreign currency was managed by the state. Later came the control of the prices of basic products, which caused the disappearance of those items and initiated a black market that is also very much in force to this day.The real problem began in 2004 with the accelerated decrease in oil prices that translated into a lower income for the government. Remember that we are talking about an oil-reliant country.

The decay was soon seen in many aspects. There was no longer maintenance on public roads, and public services failed often until reaching the point of constant failures of electric service, even for days.

The public health situation is also getting worse and worse. As a health professional, I have seen this deterioration for the last 10 years.

I am an oncologic breast surgeon. In Venezuela, breast cancer is the main cause of death from cancer in women. However, in the hospital where I work, the most important hospital in Caracas, there are no basic services for this issue. No chemotherapy, the radiotherapy equipment has been inoperative since 2015, and surgical procedures are suspended every week.

For me, as a doctor, it is frustrating not to be able to help my patients in any way. Just last week two breast cancer patients who were going to the operating room were suspended for the fourth time in a row. This time the anesthesia machine was failing.

The purchasing power of the Venezuelan citizen also decreased. It seemed to have happened from one day to the next, but if you look at the political situation since 1988, the decline took a long time; all that was left was to hit rock bottom.

Finding ourselves in extreme situations makes our defense system act in a primitive way. This means activating the fight or flight response at any time within any context—and yes, the state takes advantage of that.

The state will rip you off, but it doesn’t happen all of a sudden. There are a lot of logistics; it takes a long time to develop the kind of policy that makes citizens totally dependent on the state.

You start by losing something unimportant, like some kind of monetary bonus now given to you as government-run grocery store credits, and you end up losing your freedom and all kinds of rights, including freedom of speech and protest, but these issues are so extensive that they require an article of their own to explain them properly.

The state has taken charge, with great success I must say, and you are now living in fear of the so-called public authorities, meaning police and military police, since they serve as pro-government forces of repression.

Many of us have lost the incentive to go out and protest. We did it for more than 10 years. However, I have seen the evolution of the manifestations before and now.

I remember 2003 when repression was minimal, almost non-existent. Today many friends who still have the strength to continue have gotten gas masks in order to defend themselves from the hundreds of tear gas grenades used by the authorities that should be defending people.

In any public protest, savage repression is a constant. That violence is what we Venezuelans have become used to.When there is no public or social security, when the devaluation of the currency is occurring on a daily basis, and when you don’t know if the bakery on the corner is going to be broken into tomorrow, at that moment, the debacle has already occurred.

Defending oneself from these kinds of problems is as difficult as trying to explain them. Many have chosen to leave and seek a future in other countries. That way the state even strips you of your own country by causing you to become self-exiled.

I don’t blame them. We all have more than one family member or close friend who has been kidnapped or stolen from violently, and sadly, all we can say is “You should be thankful you weren’t killed”.

Personal security becomes a problem of epic proportions, to the extent that going out on the street is considered a risky activity—a risk to which, unfortunately, you have to get used to in order to live a normal life.Living in that state of continuous stress in which your rights are violated, in cities where, despite paying high taxes, everything seems to be in ruins, is part of that hopelessness that the state achieves in the individual.

Living in a place where a good monthly salary fora top executive, for example, does not reach $100 a month, is not easy, especially taking into consideration that a basic shopping list for a family of four can cost up to $140 monthly.

So the mismanagement of incompetent and corrupt civil servants results in the deep separation of three social classes: extreme poverty, which represents more than 80% of the population and is totally dependent on the government; the working middle class, which manages to subsist through one or two basic incomes plus the economic help of family members abroad; and those who do business with the government and can live in a very comfortable, ideal world that has nothing to do with reality.

Of course, there are exceptions to this, and some people have high incomes without being involved in dubious businesses.

It is sad to see how fourth-level professionals, trained in the country, must leave in order to provide for their families.

I know it is not a unique situation in the world—it has happened and will continue to happen—but it is very different to read about it than to see it sitting in the front row or even being the leading character.

Nowadays it is the common denominator, and more and more qualified professionals and technicians step into the international airport in search of a better quality of life. That’s why there is a whole generation that has no kind of roots in their country and only waits for the opportunity to leave.

I think the worst part of all this is the desolation sown in all of us. It seems to be an endless story, with the political disqualification of opposition leaders, political prisoners, and many more vexations.

Writing all this is not easy, but it makes me reflect. It is an exercise in introspection. Without a doubt, the state strips you of everything in its eagerness to stay in charge. That’s the way they do it.

There comes a point at which the only thing in your mind is to know if you will return home alive. Everything else is secondary. At that point, the state has already massacred you internally. You can never be the same again. I’m sure I am not.

Even if you are a person who is not involved in politics, an “apolitical” citizen, in this state of anarchy, you have to fix your position.

As Desmond Tutu said, “If you are neutral in situations of injustice, you have chosen the side of the oppressor.”

  • Should you get a Ham Radio License or Hide from the Government? If SHTF, The First Place They Would go Would be The Ham Operators And Take Them Offline

Should you get a Ham Radio License or Hide from the Government? If SHTF, The First Place They Would go Would be The Ham Operators And Take Them Offline

In another video this same guy went on to explain and demonstrate his own personal Ham Radio setup complete with a really nice antenna that was suspended from trees and hidden from view with additional comments about how he would not get his Ham license because he didn’t need to be on any government lists and if TSHTF, the first place they would go would be the Ham operators and take them offline.

This got me to thinking a while back and I really debated whether or not I should be like this guy and be a conscientious objector to the whole notion of licensing and just be a rebel with my antenna hanging in a tree. After a lot of thought and some research I decided to pull the trigger and get my Ham license and I want to explain why and discuss why you might want to do the same.

Isn’t Ham something yummy and delicious?

As context, let me explain what Ham is to those of you who aren’t familiar with the term. Ham Radio is also known as Amateur Radio and is a network of radio communications that rely on antennas and individual pieces of equipment to communicate using radio waves. Ham Radio has many strengths but chief among them for Preppers is its ability to be counted on in a disaster. Ham radio is perfect for grid down communications.

Ham Radio operators can still communicate if there is no electric power, satellites or cellular service. That is the primary reason they are the go-to method of communication for preppers as well as emergency response teams in virtually every large city. With the right equipment, Ham operators can talk to people in other countries using technology that was around in the early 1900s. If some disaster knocks out the cell phone service, emergency communications can be routed through Amateur Radio and you can keep in touch with others in your family, group, region or state pretty easily.

Ham radio is a valuable Prepper skill.
Ham radio is a valuable Prepper skill.

Ham or Amateur radios fall under the control of the FCC and there is a licensing process associated with being able to communicate on the radio. In order to speak on the air legally, you must first obtain your Technician level license and a call sign from the FCC. Your name and information will be listed in at least one public database and this information is freely accessible to anyone who wants to look.

Reasons Why You shouldn’t get a license

Like my friend above, I had some initial concerns regarding licensing because like any good Prepper, I am concerned with OPSEC. Even if I wasn’t into prepping, I wouldn’t want my name and address posted anywhere that someone could easily access it and part of communicating on Ham Radio is that you are required to give your call sign. Anyone you are talking to, or anyone simply listening in can look up your call sign and see where you are from. After learning all of this I started to weigh my options with Ham radio.

Like I mentioned above, Ham radio is probably the single best – disaster proof communication method the average person can use. As I began prepping my own family, the topic of communications came up several times. How would I communicate with my family in an emergency? How would we get news from others if for some reason there was a media blackout? The ubiquitous walkie-talkies that everyone has are effective at limited ranges, but what about longer distances? Ham Radio addressed both of those concerns nicely.

The only problem was that darned license.

At this point I could do one of two things. I could either get my license and put my name and address out there for everyone to see or I could simply buy the radio equipment and use it illegally. The thought process for some people is that if TSHTF, nobody is going to care if you have a license so the latter option is one I considered just like the YouTube guy above.

    How hard can it be?

    IMG_4073
Ham radio works when other traditional communication methods are offline.

It turns out that two things influenced my decision on whether or not to be a law abiding citizen. The first and most obvious was my address out there on the interwebs. To get around that, I simply purchased a PO Box in a nearby town and used that for my FCC information. This is perfectly legal and still protects my address somewhat. Could someone look up my name, and then cross reference me in the phone book? I guess so, but who are we talking about here? If you have a psychopath running around trying to find you, chances are there are much easier ways of getting to your house. If this is in a post-collapse scenario, I have bigger problems.

Now, does that mean I should let my guard down and talk about anything on the radio? Not at all. The airwaves are public and anyone can listen in. For that reason alone, you should take great care in choosing what you talk about or divulge when you are talking on the Ham bands.

The second and more important factor that influenced my decision was the learning curve that is associated with Ham Radio. Getting started is pretty simple and once I had a radio, I was listening in on channels fairly quickly, but there is so much you can do that is outside of dialing through some frequencies. To fully take advantage of Ham Radio, I would need to practice and you can’t do that illegally, well without risk that is. Technically you can get on the radio and start talking without a call sign or you could lie, but just because radio waves are invisible, that doesn’t mean you can’t be found. Hams make a game out of finding antennas and it’s called a fox hunt. If you are talking on the radio and

shouldn’t be, someone can report you, they will find you and the fines from the FCC are steep.

Baofeng makes a great, affordable radio for preppers.
Baofeng makes a great, affordable radio for preppers.

    On the Radio – Almost

So with all that said, I went and took the exam for my Technician level license and passed. Now, as soon as the Government opens back up, and the backlog clears I will have a call sign and my name will start appearing in those databases. I am looking forward to finally being able to talk on the radio, but more importantly learning about the different frequencies and antennas I can use to communicate to others should our normal method of communications go down. I think of this as a decent trade-off for being able to communicate legally over the radio and besides, it isn’t like my name isn’t in several databases already. I am in the database for prior military service, the firearm database, IRS database etc. etc. If they want to find me they already know where I am and just because I have a radio now, that won’t be much more motivation to come get me I don’t believe. We’ll see.

I will add some Ham links to the site on our Resources page and will post from time to time on this subject as I learn more. I think if you are seriously considering how you could communicate in a grid-down environment, HAM radio deserves a close look.

Society Collapse 2040- The Reality of Our Societal Decline

Will Society Collapse? Civilization seems to be lurching.  A study suggests that there is a possibility that society will collapse in 2040. In this blog post, let’s explore why society might collapse and how we can prevent it.

We’ve all seen the movies where society collapses, and it’s every man for himself. The reality is that most people won’t know how to survive when this happens. Many things have been happening in the world lately. In light of all this, it’s vital to start thinking about surviving the collapse of society.

Many believe that it’s only a matter of time before something big happens. That could leave us without power or essential services for an extended time.

Will Society Collapse in 2040? The Reality of Our Societal Decline

When Will Society Collapse 2040 | city with fires, explosions, debris and collapsing structures. Concept of war, natural disasters, judgment day, fire, nuclear accident or terrorism.

Many factors could lead to society collapsing in 2040. Some of the most likely reasons include:

    • Economic Collapse
    • Natural Disasters and Climate Change
    • Foreign Invasions and Mass Migration
    • Famine, Economic Depression, and Internal Strife
    • Disease Outbreaks
    • Demographic Dynamics
    • Pandemics
    • Social Unrest
    • Water Scarcity

If any of these events happen, it could lead to a cascading effect that causes society to collapse. An economic collapse could lead to social unrest and a pandemic. These are possible reasons why society might collapse. Many other scenarios could play out.

    Is Society Collapsing?

A new study is raising red flags about the future of society. The report finds that human society is right on track for a collapse.

Based on a 1970’s report reassessment, Society Collapse 2040 prediction is most likely. It warns that we are on track for disaster if we do not change our ways. So far, it seems like we haven’t heeded that warning. Society Collapse 2040 is right on track if there is no shift in global priorities.

The world population is booming, and the quality of life is declining. It’s looking more and more likely that society will collapse by 2040.

We’re on the brink of disaster, and we need to do something about it. If we don’t change our ways, society is collapsing. It’s time for us to wake up and take action. We need to find a way to save this world before it’s too late. We’re running out of time. We need to find a way to turn things around and save this world before it’s too late. The future of humanity is at stake.

    When Will Society Collapse?

Sad Children or young man sitting on cracked earth near drying river metaphor water crisis, climate change, Drought and Environment disaster _ How Will Society Collapse 2040

When will society collapse? Many people are asking, and new research has some disturbing answers.

A recent climate change analysis predicts that human civilization will collapse by 2050.

The analysis concludes that climate change poses a current existential national security risk. Not addressing the threat of climate change could lead to the extinction of humanity. Or the permanent destruction of our potential for future development.

In other words, the world is on a path to disaster, and we need to take urgent action before it’s too late!

The Crisis is the New Normal – Can Society Survive the Current Crises?

Any catastrophe on a global scale will almost result in a pandemic. The world might flip upside down in only a few days! The harsh fact is that many people would not survive a week without stored food, let alone 90 days.

Societies or advanced civilizations as we know them have existed for around 10,000 years. During this era of earth’s history, many rose to great power. Many collapsed as well, leaving only residues of their territories. Historians tried to analyze specific reasons leading to the collapse of civilizations. While most details remain unknown, we do see repeating patterns.

There is a timeline for every calamity. Even so, there is usually a pattern. Knowing this pattern can help you avoid the chaos and stay safe through it.

Society is a delicate thing. It’s something that we often take for granted until it’s gone. But, that doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t prepare for it. Knowing what happens when society collapses – is a must to survive the societal collapse.

To prepare for societal collapse, learn what happens when it collapses.

    What Happens When Society Collapses?

men in protective suit, outbreak concept, illustration painting | Will Society Collapse | Society Collapse 2040

Many think about societal collapse as a world where law and order have broken down. Gangs are running the streets. While this may be one possible outcome, it’s not the only one. Many different things could happen when society collapses. Many different scenarios could play out. But, here are some of the most common ones:

    Infrastructure & Communication Breakdown

When society collapses, the systems that we rely on will likely go with it. Electricity and Internet will be no longer.

    Water Scarcity

Water scarcity is a global crisis. It already affects every continent.

It affects around 2.8 billion people at least one month out of every year. This number is only going to increase as water resources become limited.

Because of global warming, water-related dangers are on the rise. Floods and droughts are two examples of water-related dangers.

You can expect water scarcity to increase because of population growth. Add to that decreasing water availability.

    Food Shortage

Food shortage is one of the biggest concerns during a societal collapse.

Food and water shortage could happen due to a natural disaster. It could happen due to disruptions in food production and distribution too.

Without anyone growing or distributing food, there will be shortages. Without food or water, people will die.

    Crime Rise

As we mentioned before, one of the most common outcomes of a societal collapse is the rise of crime. With no one to enforce the law, criminals will have free reign over the population.

    Disease Outbreak

When society collapses, there is no longer any sanitation or healthcare. No sanitation or healthcare could lead to widespread disease and death.

    Social Order Collapses

When the government collapses, law and order break down. Social order collapse could lead to looting, violence, and anarchy.

    Economic Collapse

When society collapses, the economy goes with it.

An economic collapse could lead to mass unemployment and poverty.

    Martial Law

In some cases, the government may declare martial law to restore order. Martial law could lead to restrictions on freedom (of movement and speech). Arbitrary arrests could result too.

How to Survive the Collapse of Civilization

As a prepper and survivalist, surviving the collapse of society is a must skill to get.

A person can survive a week max without food or water. How can you expect to live three months without food or water? How do you plan for what might occur if something goes wrong?

If you want to survive a societal collapse, you need to:

    Be Prepared

Be prepared for these things. That means having food, water, and medical supplies stored up.

Have a Plan for how you will survive.

    • Find safe places to stay.
    • Form alliances with like-minded people.

    Learn primitive medical diagnosing.

    Do not panic.

Surviving the collapse of society is something that we can all do if we prepare.
So, start thinking about what you would do if it happened and get started on your preparations today.

    Stockpile food and water

Stockpiling is one of the most crucial things to do to prepare for a societal collapse.

Stockpile enough food and water to last you at least three months.

    Have a backup plan

If the worst happens and society collapses, don’t rely on your stockpile to keep you alive.
Make sure to have other means of survival, such as a bug-out bag or safe house.

    Stay informed

One of the best ways to prepare for a societal collapse is to stay informed about the potential risks.
Follow reliable news sources and keep up with what’s happening.

While we can’t predict when or how society will collapse, it doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t prepare for it. Learn to survive the societal collapse to ensure that you and your family will be safe. No matter what happens.

Is Society on the Verge of Collapse? 2040 Predictions

KPMG made a follow-up study on MIT’s prediction. Instead of finding evidence to dismiss the previous findings. The study declares the world is ahead of schedule.

It’s time for us to face the facts and take action. We need to find a way to save society before it’s too late. To prevent societal collapse, we need to make changes fast! The future of the world is at stake.

  • The art of driving nations insane- The enemies of humanity, having engineered a fake health emergency and then followed that up with a timely war

The art of driving nations insane- The enemies of humanity, having engineered a fake health emergency and then followed that up with a timely war

The enemies of humanity, having engineered a fake health emergency and then followed that up with a timely war – cold or hot remains to be seen – are doing their utmost to to wreck our civilisation.

This latest orgy of fear, destruction and death, immensely desirable to the frothing-at-the-mouth perverts and psychopaths ensconced in centres of power such as Moscow, Washington Beijing, London and so forth will ruin or kill millions of us IF WE DO NOTING AND LET THESE DRAMATSING LUNATICS CONTINUE TO SET THE STAGE AND WRITE THE SCRIPT.

By “we” I mean you and I, the citizens of our global community.

Reason and sanity reside at the grass roots, with the People. The shopkeeper in London has no real quarrel with the taxi driver in Moscow. They have never even met. It actually takes a great expenditure of effort, a massive propaganda blitz via the media to drive nations sufficiently insane to support  the mutual  destruction of a war that no nation ever truly wins.

And here we again, letting ourselves be duped by politicians and journalists bereft of common sense or reason, who we KNOW to be remorseless liars, into despising and killing one another. Man’s natural kinship with his fellow man is yet again being obfuscated and inhibited by contrived hatreds driven by a storm of lies.

The choice is ours whether we fall for this madness YET AGAIN and if we learn nothing and succumb once more to the transparently criminal exhortations of madmen who despise us so thoroughly they would see millions die without a flicker of remorse, we will deservedly perish.

Planets run by criminals are not surprisingly miserable and invariably go insane.

Ultimately it is not enough to lay responsibility for the shambolic condition of the planet’s governance at the feet of  these demented muppets operating from a sub-basement several levels below mere incompetence, who have seized power across the globe.

After all, we let it happen.

People of good will are in the vast majority. We can, IF WE UNITE, do something about it and steer the planet in the direction of Reason, for men of good will outnumber the lunatics by tens of thousands to one.

    The shambolic state we’re in

THE question is not what is Left, or what is Right, but why is it all wrong?

If people bother to get informed at all, their attention is funnelled by a media which focuses their attention on a white-hot dot of hysteria. Both wings have their clickbait trigger words. The Left and Right in print and online are so often little more than signals saying APPLAUSE or BOO to a captive audience.

Why are things like this? Why does no one from either wing seem to notice that the world they refuse to describe is falling apart?

Our entire culture is being cancelled, because that is the goal of cancel culture. This process goes hand in glove with the anti-culture of global consumerism, whose sales pitch is a tick-list of woke totems. Marginal voices dominate mainstream imagery. To be normal these days is to be borderline subversive.

It may be a surprise to some that the Blairite governments with which we are stuck have surrendered every battle in the so-called culture wars. This is where we are in Britain, governed by progressives in blue ties with no commitment to conserving anything of value, whilst the Left assassinates itself periodically over which radical madness to endorse next. Government and its reflection across the benches are just the most prominent example of the collapse of the institutions in Britain today.

The intellectual poverty and demonstrable incompetence of our leadership at every level is guaranteed by the ideological blindness to which they owe their careers.

To speak off-message is to abort your own ambition, and so messages which are off are deleted. This leads to the kind of feedback loop shown in the humiliating US withdrawal from Afghanistan. Plenty of people including diplomats, sources in other US government factions and countless ordinary people on the internet knew it would be disastrous. The Biden administration was shocked at the collapse of the Afghan government, having relied exclusively on it for information.

The reliance on Trusted Sources becomes an enfeebling handicap which prevents even basic realities from being noticed. To get anywhere in any organisation these days you must say the Right Things consistently, for ever, to the exclusion of reality. This is why things are all wrong.

You can see this in the United States Government, in ours, in the media picture of reality and in any public bureaucracy or corporate culture with which you attempt to engage directly. If you try to make an appointment with the GP, if you try to find out why some clownish pervert is twerking in front of your children in a library, if you wish to contest an unjust traffic fine or have police investigate a burglary at your home, you will be painfully familiar with the parlous state of our institutions. They seem all to have learned, these bureaucracies over which no one seems to have any real control, to defend themselves against you as if you were an enemy. The attempt to get a hearing is so frustrating as to suggest the process is deliberate. Once you lose your composure you are dismissed, to return to the customer service limbo that is the telephone queue.

On the global stage, which is an apt setting for the pantomime politics which grace it, the sheer folly of the greatest power on earth is breathtaking. In two weeks the US has lost Saudi, the UAE and India to China and Russia, all of whom are preparing to move their energy trades off the dollar. This could very well collapse the US economy, as the value of the heavily leveraged dollar is backed by the hitherto unquestioned practice of trading oil and gas in dollars.

Nato and the EU are not as one. Here too the US has squandered a settlement which has obtained for 76 years. In allowing the Germans to re-arm, in exchange for cancelling the Nordstream 2 pipeline, the US has opened the door to the long-desired EU army. France and Germany are going their own way, to the detriment of Nato and US influence in Europe.

We do not make military decisions independently of the US. We remain very closely allied with a power whose empire appears to be breaking apart, yet remains dedicated to the neoconservative foreign policy which brought such tremendous success in Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Syria and in Yemen. The US Under Secretary of State, Victoria Nuland, was infamously recorded naming the new Ukrainian cabinet in 2014. “F— the EU” she remarked, when asked what Europe might make of all that.

From your local council to the heights of state power, our world is directed by people who are in place for reasons other than their ability to do their job well. The notion of duty – civic duty – as a natural obligation to consider the good of others is only one casualty of this epidemic of incompetence. This sickness is a result of the system selecting its own in a closed loop of self-affirmation, which views any healthy input as infection.

  • Is This The Beginning Of The End? (The United States of America must not be able to intervene in world events when the events mentioned in the Bible come to pass.)

Is This The Beginning Of The End? (The United States of America must not be able to intervene in world events when the events mentioned in the Bible come to pass.)

I’m going to say something that I don’t normally say; that is, I don’t think the United States is going to be around a whole lot longer.

I regret having come to that conclusion, but I can’t ignore the fact of it. When I look around at what is happening in our country today, I have to ask myself if I’m seeing the beginning of the end.

But my conclusion that the United States isn’t going to make it doesn’t come from what I see going on around me; it comes from the Bible. I know that might seem a little bit strange, but I feel that I have solid biblical standing on what I’m saying.

For you see, when I look at End Time prophecy, I don’t see the United States mentioned in any way, not even symbolically. Considering that the United States is the one-world superpower and that nothing happens in the world without our involvement in some way or another, I can’t see how the events foretold for the End Times can occur, without US involvement, if the US remains as a superpower.

Therefore, I am forced to conclude that the United States of America must not be able to intervene in world events when the events mentioned in the Bible come to pass. That, in turn, means that either the United States ceases to be as a political entity or has been weakened so much by internal problems, that we are unable to make an impact on the world stage. Neither option is very attractive.

    Division

With that as a foundation, I see a lot of corroborating evidence in what’s happening in the country today. More than anything, what I see is division. We no longer have any one thing that holds us together. In fact, we have a lot of people who are working hard to drive us apart.

That’s what identity politics is all about. It’s an “us versus them” way of looking at life, which is fostered by some for political gain. They want to divide the American people, denying us anything that holds us together, so as to have an excuse for taking our liberty and exercising more control over us. It is a near-perfect application of the concept to “divide and conquer” and most of us don’t even see it happening all around us.

Nowhere do we see this division more than in politics. Our country’s political system was intentionally created in a way to cause people of different views to come together and seek out the middle ground. Yet today we have a system where political parties are demanding that things be their way, without any willingness to make concessions to give anything to the other side in return.

Sadly, this division isn’t just happening in the halls of Congress, it has infected our society at every level. We have reached a point where people are breaking off relationships with others based upon political affiliation. Sadly, most of that is based upon a misunderstanding of the other side’s ideology, listening to what those working to cause the division are saying, rather than listening to what people say for themselves or looking to see whether their actions line up with what they are saying.

    Where is it Taking Us?

As I look at what’s happening in our country today, I see a serious marked increase in violence. The amount of death and destruction following Floyd George has been much greater than that which followed the killings of Michael Brown or Eric Garner. More cities have held protests and there have been more riots which have broken out of those protests, than for any of the killings before.

Please allow me to reiterate something I said last week; I don’t believe the peaceful protesters are the ones who are starting the riots. From everything I’ve been able to see; those peaceful protests have been hijacked by bad actors, most likely paid agitators sent in to bring about the very violence they created. There are those working behind the scenes who are intentionally trying to bring about social unrest and destruction, under the cover of a legitimate protest.

The sad thing about that is that the legitimate protesters are being blamed for what the paid agitators are doing. That doesn’t help anything, and in fact pushes us closer to the possibility of a racial civil war; something that may be the actual goal of those working behind the scenes

Should this turn into racial civil war, we’ll see a bloodbath the likes of which this nation has never seen before. The killings that were done by the KKK will be nothing, in comparison to what we might see in the future. It will go in both directions, but it is the minorities who will end up suffering the most.

The creating of CHAZ, now renamed CHOP, is a very scary portent in this ongoing struggle. The creation of an “autonomous zone” that is not subject to US laws, smack dab in the midst of an American city, is not something that can or even should be ignored by authorities. Yet that is exactly what is happening. The mayor of Seattle and the governor of the state of Washington are allowing these people to thumb their noses at government authority, without any repercussions in sight.

Make no mistake, CHAZ or CHOP isn’t just an “autonomous zone,” it’s a zone of anarchy; and like other places where anarchy reigns in the world, a warlord has risen up to take over. The only questions that yet remain are in regard to how violent things will get.

Fortunately, CHAZ hasn’t succeeded in exporting their particular brand of hate to the rest of the country yet. A similar group tried to rise up in Portland, making camp outside the mayor’s house. But that one lasted mere minutes, as the mayor, who I understand had previously been supportive of CHAZ, called the police to disband the “disturbance” in front of his house.

Should the actions of those in Seattle take hold in other parts of the nation, we could see a gradual destruction of our social fabric, as more and more parts of the country fall under the control of warlords. Anarchy will gradually become the norm, rather than an oddity. The rule of law will mean nothing and we will see these warlords begin fighting amongst themselves, as they try to take over more and more land.

That’s what has happened elsewhere and if our government officials don’t get a handle on things, that could very well happen here. But it’s hard to put a stop to actions that half of the nation’s politicians support because they are ultimately about tearing the nation apart.

    On the International Stage

There are three things that give America legitimacy as both the world’s number one superpower and as the world’s police, on the international stage. They are:

    • The size and might of our military
    • The size and strength of our economy
    • Domestic stability

The current situation actually has the potential of undermining all three of these. Should insurrection within our borders reach a point where the president feels he is forced to use military forces to quell those disturbances, it will draw away military force from their many overseas missions. This is something our military hasn’t had to do in the past, unlike some other countries, whose militaries spend more time acting as national police, than as a military force.

Our economy has already taken a huge hit from the COVID-19 pandemic and our government’s actions in regard to it. Rioters destroying millions of dollars of businesses and preventing businesses to operate as normal is just adding another hit on top of the one we’ve already taken. Sadly, it is the small businesses in those communities who are suffering the greatest from this, as it is their livelihoods that are being destroyed.

Finally, anyone looking at the international news coverage of what’s happening in the United States is seeing the amount of unrest that we are experiencing. They are being fed a very carefully crafted narrative, making the United States out to be the most racist nation on the face of the Earth, where blacks are hunted and killed by the police. In other words, they’re being told that we are actively practicing genocide, something universally considered to be a crime against humanity.

It doesn’t matter that our military is still strong, as is our economy and the genocide that is supposedly occurring is a media myth; it is the perception of these things that is important. As long as the world sees the United States in this light, our power and influence overseas are diminished. Other nations will stop looking to the USA for help and turn instead to the United Nations.

While that might sound good, the UN has become one of the world’s leading proponents of a one-world government. When nations look to the USA for help and guidance, it is looking at a source of help that historically promotes self-determination. When they look to the UN, it is looking to an organization that is bent on bringing them under subjugation. There’s a huge difference.

    What About You and Me?

So where does this leave you and me? To start with, we need to go back to where I started this article. That is, the United States, as we know it, is probably going to go down. It may not happen this year or next year. It may not even happen in this decade. But I think it’s fairly certain that it is going to happen eventually. Whether that is due to being torn apart internally or by some rogue nation hitting us with an EMP, the probability of it happening is too high to ignore.

Without the national cohesiveness and unity needed to hold us together, any such conflict will surely tear us apart. As former President John F. Kennedy famously said, quoting Abraham Lincoln “A house divided against itself cannot prevail.” Unless we find a way to bring this house back together, we are that house and we cannot prevail.

That’s the scenario we need to be prepared for, a total collapse of our country. It may happen in stages or looking in the light of what’s been happening lately, we may see it happen as the accumulation of many separate things, all piling on top of each other. But either way, it is likely to come.

Believe it or not, that’s not as hopeless a message as it may sound. While I fully expect that our nation is going to go through hard times, I still have hope. This nation was the only nation in the history of the Earth that was actually founded to be a Christian nation. While we have not necessarily fulfilled that call as well as we should have, it is still built into our foundation. Many of us may have forsaken God, but I don’t yet believe that He has forsaken us.

For myself, I will endeavor to take no sides, other than that of the Lord. Yet, at the same time, I will defend the lives of those I love. That will probably be seen to be taking one side or another by whoever tries to attack us. For when whatever civil war comes, there will be many who will take the stand “if you’re not with me, you’re against me.”

In reality, that war probably won’t be the sweeping war that our country endured in the 1860s, but rather a thousand smaller battles fought out on a local level. But it will be devastating nevertheless. It will distract the energies of this country from other important things and it will force you and me to focus on protecting those who are close to us, perhaps at the cost of our businesses, our jobs, and even our homes.

Should the United States go down, it will rise again; perhaps not as the United States of America, but as something else. It might even be several different nations. I can’t see that far. But it is up to you and me to survive whatever might befall us so that we can be those counted as having hands that build-up, rather than hands that break down. We will become an important part of putting our communities and our nation back together; but only if we survive.

  • How To Effectively Prepare Your Family For Power Grid Failure: What would it really be like to have no running water, electricity, sewer, newspaper or Internet? No supermarket or fire department close at hand?

How To Effectively Prepare Your Family For Power Grid Failure: What would it really be like to have no running water, electricity, sewer, newspaper or Internet? No supermarket or fire department close at hand?

Imagine yourself and your family, forced from your home in the dead of winter, with nothing more than the few supplies you were able to carry amongst yourselves. Then imagine being shuttered into a community center with thousands of other families, displaced from their homes as well, relying on what few supplies the government could provide.

If you live a comfortable middle-class lifestyle in a first world country, this situation sounds preposterous, doesn’t it? It is not. Families, just like yours, faced this exact plight on December 20, 2013, when a massive ice storm hit parts of central Canada and the U.S., crippling many cities and leaving tens of thousands without power for days, sometimes weeks. Those who were prepared for such an event, having items such as blankets and medications to bring with them, fared much better than their ill-prepared counterparts.

In today’s modern society, we’ve come to rely almost implicitly on having a dependable source of power. When power fails, it causes utter and complete chaos for those not fortunate enough to have had the foresight to prepare.

What Is Power Grid Failure and Why Should I Care?

Of all the threats your disaster plan should consider, power grid failure is one of the more realistic and among the most likely to occur.  When a power grid fails, a substantial geographic area can be without power for hours, days, or sometimes even weeks.

In addition to the 2013 ice storm that decimated power sources to many areas of central Canada and the U.S., there have been several other power grid failures in the last decade that brought panic and chaos to areas all over the world:

    • In 2007, Indonesia suffered major grid failure due to a drop in demand that affected nearly 100 million people for over 7 hours
    • India faces ongoing grid issues due to sporadic increases in demand
    • In 2003, the Northeast Blackout at Con Edison left 55 million people in Canada and the U.S. without power; in some cases, this lasted for more than 2 days
    • In 2005, Louisiana and surrounding areas dealt with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina that left 2.6 million people without power; some for extended periods of time due to the extensive flooding that structurally damaged buildings and blocked access to power sources
    power grid failure
A view of the 2003 Blackout in the Northeast

    What Causes Power Grid Failure?

The two most common causes of power grid failure are system failure and equipment failure, but other events can also wreak havoc.

    System Failure

The power grid system may fail due to a disruption of equilibrium in power supplied and power drawn, triggering the line to trip and cutting off the supply of power. System failure was the culprit in Indonesia’s outage as well as in the frequent outages suffered by India.

A system failure can occur at the supply-end during extreme weather changes, such as a heat wave that causes an increase in the power drawn from the system to power cooling devices, or at the supplier-end if an error occurs in regulating the power input.

    Equipment Failure

An equipment failure can occur at the station, transmission line, or transformer level. Any number of factors can be the cause of an equipment failure, such as an error in the digital processing system or physical damage due to an accident, construction, or weather.

Both the 2003 Northeast Blackout and power outages during Hurricane Katrina were caused by equipment failures.

    Other Causes

Power grid failure can also be the result of malicious or criminal behavior, such as cyber terrorist or infrastructure attacks against a nation or a nuclear electromagnetic pulse (NEMP) designed to disable electronic equipment. In the wake of 9/11, many feared the Northeast Blackout in 2003 was in fact a terrorist attack.

Power grids can also fail due to large-scale electromagnetic storms, an electromagnetic pulse (EMP), or a reversal in the Earth’s magnetic field – which can cause temporary disruptions or permanent damage to electronic devices.

While events such as these have the potential to completely shut down power systems for an indefinite amount of time, the likelihood of their occurrence – and the extent of ensuing damage – has been hotly debated.

    power grid failure

What Can I Expect During a Power Grid Failure?

The immediate aftermath of a power grid failure is the loss of power, which means modern day methods of communications, sanitation, lighting, cooking, refrigeration / preparation, and transportation will all be unavailable.

Within the first few days of a power outage, the disruption in supply of fuel for transportation will lead to shortages in other supplies such as food and medication. Many who wait several days before stockpiling will be greeted with empty and pillaged Supermarket shelves. Don’t rely on any emergency services – medical facilities, emergency responders, and public officials will more than likely be overwhelmed and unavailable.

If the outage continues for a week or more, civil unrest will begin to grow as food and other resources become scarce. People will no longer be able to run generators or vehicles as fuel supplies run out, and many will experience a disruption in their finances or incomes.

In the event a power outage stretches out into the long-term, such as several weeks or perhaps indefinitely, alternate means of power will need to be found along with long-term solutions to meet everyday needs.

What Will I Need to Prepare My Family?

The best thing you can have during a power grid failure is a positive attitude. Make sure to do whatever you can to encourage hopefulness and keep spirits high.

In addition to the right attitude, I recommend doing the following to properly prepare yourself and your family:

    • Create a storage space that can be easily accessed in the dark
    • Stockpile at least two-weeks worth of supplies
    • Design a plan for preparing food, sanitation, living / sleeping quarters, entertainment (especially for children), and rationing for fuel and power sources
    • Store jugs of water in the fridge now to be used during an outage to keep food from spoiling; however, once the water melts, it should be used for cleaning or flushing, not drinking
    • Store a flashlight or lantern by every bed

There are ten integral categories that should be part of every well thought out power grid failure disaster plan:

    1. Drinking Water
    2. Food
    3. Lighting
    4. Heating
    5. Communication
    6. Sanitation
    7. First Aid
    8. Protection
    9. Additional Items
    10. Backup Power Systems

The following is a detailed discussion of the key knowledge and items to have as part of your disaster plan to ensure all the above categories are accounted for.

    Drinking Water

For drinking water, the general rule is that you should have 1-2 gallons per day available for each member of your household. A two-week supply of water for a family of four would mean having 56-112 gallons on hand. If you have pets, consider their needs as well; a rule of thumb is 1 ounce of water per pound of pet per day, so a 20 lbs dog would need 20 ounces a day.

You can further ensure access to clean drinking water by having a water filtration method available such as the LifeStraw Personal Water Filter or water purification packets. This will allow you to draw on water from unclean sources.

    Food

When stockpiling food for your family, you’ll want to plan for three meals per day, plus some snack foods for each member of your household. Don’t forget pets – include a two-week supply of food for them as well.

Choose food items that require little to no heating and that your family is familiar with. Consider that cooking requires substantially more fuel than heating; therefore, canned foods that need only be heated are favorable to dried foods that will require boiling. Oversize cans are great if you feel your family can consume all the contents in one sitting, otherwise the leftovers will spoil in the absence of refrigeration.

A convenient option for long-term food storage is to store some MREs (Meals Ready-to-Eat) which are designed for the military use but are a popular choice for stockpiling.

You can check out our Food Storage Guide here to help you decide what the best way is for YOUR family to keep your food supply.

Other key considerations when planning your food stockpile are as follows:

    • Gas supply lines may also be affected by an outage so ensure you have an alternative means for cooking and boiling water, e.g. a camp stove, fire pit, or gas or charcoal grill
    • For any of the above, be sure to have a two-week supply of fuel on hand such as firewood, propane, or charcoal
    • Be sure to store at least two manual can openers with your food supply
    power grid failure

    Lighting

In a power outage, electrical lighting sources will be unavailable so be sure to have a stash of lighting sources that can run independently of electricity, e.g. flashlights, candles and headlamps, as well as the means to power or light those items such as batteries, matches and lighters.

You should also have a lantern that is bright enough to light an entire room. Whether you choose one powered by batteries, propane, or a hand crank depends on your own personal preference.

To conserve as much power as possible, consider storing a solar battery charger set along with multiple batteries of different sizes to accommodate all of your emergency gear. Solar garden lights and glow sticks can also be used to light up hallways and other frequently traveled areas without draining your battery power.

    Heating

In the case of a power outage in cold climates, conserving and maintaining heat will be key to survival. Should you find yourself in this situation, gather everyone in your household into one room and lay a towel along the bottom of the door to seal it. Do the same for any windows to limit the possibility of drafts. By lighting several candles and relying on residual and body heat, you can expect to keep the temperature comfortable for at least 48 hours. After that, you will need an alternative source of heat until the power is restored.

A fireplace or wood stove can serve as an excellent alternative source for heating. Should you have access to either, ensure your stockpiles include plenty of fuel to keep your fireplace or stove burning.  If this is how you will be warming your family, building an upside-down fire is a good way to have a long burning, self feeding fire.

Another option is a portable propane space heater; however, this carries the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning without proper ventilation. No matter what heating source you choose, ensure you have a fire extinguisher available and ready should you need it.

An option for overnight heating that doesn’t involve the risk of flames or noxious fumes is to heat rocks on a fire then transfer them to a Dutch oven or other heat-safe cookware. The heat emitted from the rocks should be enough to provide heat throughout the night without compromising your safety.

In terms of gear, you will want to have blankets and low-temperature rated sleeping bags stored in an easily accessible location, so as to ensure quick retrieval even in the dark. You will also want to ensure each member of your household has enough clothing to cover them from head to toe, and enough layers so that they can add or remove clothing to regulate their temperature.

    Communication

Having a hand crank radio can be invaluable in a power outage. In addition to providing important communications from the outside world, it can also be used to charge other electronic devices, such as cell phones. Keep in mind that cell phones and landlines cannot be depended on to work during power outages. It is always best to have backup methods of communication ready.

    Sanitation

Having proper sanitation protocols in place can not only help with hygiene, but also boost morale.

Here are some helpful hints for ensuring you and your family can cope with sanitation issues during a prolonged power outage:

    • Store plenty of disposable tableware to cut down on washing needs
    • Stock plenty of antibacterial wipes and hand sanitizer, as these can be used without water
    • Immediately after the power goes out, fill your bathtub and, if you have one, your washing machine with water to use for flushing and washing; if you don’t have a bathtub, fill as many buckets as you can from the shower or sink
    • Find out ahead of time whether or not your toilet will flush without power – this can prevent sewage backup in your home
    • If manually flushing your toilet by pouring water into the tank is not an option, make sure to add heavy duty contractor bags and kitty litter to your stockpile – these can be used to craft a toilet by lining a bucket with the contractor bags and adding kitty litter
      • You can also purchase a toilet seat to attach to the top of the bucket, which can be especially helpful with children who may be apprehensive about using it
      • When the bag is full, or before it becomes too heavy to lift, tie it off and store it outside
    • Keep a supply of baby wipes on hand to use in place of bathing, this will help conserve water
    • In the case of a long-term outage, you will need a means of doing laundry; consider purchasing a hand-operated mobile washer with two buckets – one for washing and one for rinsing
      • Don’t wait until you are down to your last set of clean clothes before doing laundry – remember, there are no dryers and air drying can sometimes take all night

    First Aid

In the case of a power outage, you will most likely be bugging-in and therefore have access to your household first aid supplies. However, it is still prudent to have a separate store of essential items such as bandages, antibiotic ointments, tools, any over-the-counter medications your family uses, and antidiarrheal medication to help your family cope with the change in sanitary and dietary conditions.

It is also important to remember that emergencies services will most likely be overloaded and response times could be slow or the services unavailable completely. Include a copy of The American Red Cross First Aid & Safety Handbook to help you independently deal with medical emergencies.

    Protection

As a power outage drags on, people will become increasingly desperate and the need to protect yourself and your family from those who aren’t so well prepared may arise. While firearms are always a popular choice, there are other options as well. Consider reinforcing the entranceways to your home and stocking weapons such as pepper spray.

    Additional Items

Any additional items you pack need to be based on your family’s particular needs. Every household is unique, so make sure to pack items because they are essential to your family, not because your neighbor is storing them or you read it was a good idea on a blog.

Typical items to include would be:

    • Prescription medications
    • Toiletries
    • Pet care
    • Diapers
    • Feminine hygiene products
    • And anything else you wouldn’t want to be without for two weeks or more.

If you have children, ensuring entertainment options are available is critical. Make sure to have items such as games, books, cards and crafts readily available. Adding some special, non-perishable treats to your food storage can also serve as a morale booster.

    Backup Power Systems

Depending on your budget and location, having a backup power system for your home can be an excellent way to prepare for power grid failure.

The most popular choice as a backup power source for emergencies are gas-powered generators. The DuroMax XP4400E is an excellent choice for a gas-powered generator for your home. If you choose to get a generator, make sure it’s installed correctly and that you test it out to ensure you’re familiar with how it works.

Solar panels are a great option for homes with adequate sun exposure and can be used year-round to save on energy bills; however, they are expensive to purchase and install. As they don’t require fuel, solar panels are an excellent way to live off the grid in the long-term.

You may also want to consider the following, less expensive alternatives:

    • A bicycle generator can be used to power small devices and appliances; some kits even include 12V battery charging attachments for creating stored power.
    • A solar battery charger can provide power indefinitely for cell phones and battery-operated devices.
    • A portable generator, such as the WEN 56200i, that is less powerful but can still come in handy for charging cell phones or running a small space heater.

    Conclusion

As our reliance on electrical devices and appliances grows, the need to have a solid plan prepared in case of power grid failure becomes ever more pressing. As the ice storm of 2013 demonstrated, going without power for even several days can have devastating effects.

While power grid failure may be one of the more likely disaster scenarios, it is by no means any less calamitous than other scenarios. Use the advice and tips provided in this article to ensure you and your family will stand a fighting chance should you be faced with having to survive without power for a prolonged period of time.

Above all else, remember to maintain a positive attitude and that chance favors the well-prepared!
